High-Power Synchronous Rectification Drive Power System Based on PID Control

The driving power system can be combined with lasers, lights, etc., and applied to automobiles to achieve various functions. Under the general trend of the development of intelligent vehicles, people have higher and higher requirements for the accuracy and power of various equipment. However, as power increases, how to ensure the stability of factors such as current is a challenging problem. Therefore, it is extremely important to study and design a high-power drive system in this paper, so as to ensure a stable output of the current. The system is composed of power supply, load, secondary power supply and control chip. The choice of power supply and load is conventional model. The secondary power supply adopts step-down circuit, with synchronous rectifier chip, which can effectively reduce energy consumption, and with temperature protection device, which can ensure the safe and reliable operation of equipment.

Impact of Particle Characteristics and Engine Conditions on Deposit-Induced Pre-Ignition and Superknock in Turbocharged Gasoline Engines

Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI), also referred to as superknock or mega-knock is an undesirable turbocharged engine combustion phenomenon limiting fuel economy, drivability, emissions and durability performance. Numerous researchers have previously reported that the frequency of Superknock is sensitive to engine oil and fuel composition as well as engine conditions in controlled laboratory and engine-based studies. Recent studies by Toyota and Tsinghua University have demonstrated that controlled induction of particles into the combustion chamber can induce pre-ignition and superknock. Afton and Tsinghua recently developed a multi-physics approach which was able to realistically model all of the elementary processes known to be involved in deposit induced pre-ignition. The approach was able to successfully simulate deposit induced pre-ignition at conditions where the phenomenon has been experimentally observed.

Impacts of Dynamic Toe Angle Variations on Four-Wheel Independent Steering Control and their Optimization Strategies

Compared to traditional vehicles, four-wheel independent drive and four-wheel independent steering (4WID-4WIS) vehicles have gained significant attention from researchers due to their enhanced control flexibility and superior handling performance. The steering angle deviation caused by dynamic toe angle changes in two-wheel steering (2WS) systems is often minimal and hence overlooked. However, the impact becomes notably significant in 4WIS systems. This article contrasts the tire slip angle differences between 2WS and 4WIS, and delves into the effects of dynamic toe angle variations on 4WIS control. Solutions are proposed both in terms of steering angle control and suspension design. Firstly, a dynamic model for the 4WID-4WIS vehicle is established. Secondly, a hierarchical tire force distribution strategy is designed for trajectory tracking.

Injection Rate Control in Electronic in-line Pump-Valve-Pipe-Injector Diesel Injection System

Injection rate control is considered as an effective way to optimize diesel combustion process, decrease emission and improve fuel economy. There are many injection rate shaping devices, but most of them still suffer from structure complexity and parameter sensitivity which limit their effectiveness and practicality. A new initial injection rate control method in solenoid-controlled diesel injection systems is introduced in this paper. The basic idea of this method is to maintain a small spill passage between plunger chamber and inlet port during initial injection period. The initial injection rate can be regulated by changing the closing timing of the solenoid-controlled spill valve. This method has the advantages of simple construction, flexible adjustment and stable performance. Computer aided analysis and design based on a simulation program of the system is conducted to compare and select the sizes of the small spill passage according to their effect on injection characteristics.

Injection Strategy Study of Compression Ignition Engine Fueled with Naphtha

This study investigates the performance of a diesel engine fueled with naphtha under different load by varying injection parameters and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate. The experiments were conducted on a 1.9-liter common rail diesel engine with a compression ratio of 17.5. Naphtha with a research octane number of 60.5 was tested. Three multi-injection strategies were designed. Each injection strategy, aided with EGR, conducts a characteristic combustion mode. Multi-injection strategies and single-injection strategy were tested and compared at one operating point under different main injection timing and EGR conditions. Results indicate that the well-designed multi-injection strategy has advantages over the single injection strategy in lowering noise, emissions and improving combustion efficiency. Among the three strategies, the strategy with 15-degree pilot timing and 2mg/cycle pilot injection could achieve both low NOx and PM emissions without sacrificing much fuel efficiency.

Lap Time Optimization and Path Following Control for 4WS & 4WID Autonomous Vehicle

In contrast to a normal vehicle, a 4-wheel steer (4WS) and 4-wheel independent drive (4WID) vehicle provides more flexibilities in vehicle dynamic control and better handling performance, since both the steer angle and drive torque of each wheel can be controlled. However, for motorsports, how much lap time can be improved with such a vehicle is a problem few discussed. So, this paper focuses on the racing line optimization and lap time improvement for a 4WS &4WID vehicle. First, we optimize the racing line and lap time of three given circuits with the genetic algorithm (GA) and interior-point method, and several objective functions are compared. Next, to evaluate the lap time improvement of 4WS & 4WID, a detailed vehicle dynamic model of our 4WS & 4WID platform vehicle is built in Carsim. To follow the racing line, a path following controller which contains a PID speed controller and a model predictive control (MPC) yaw rate controller is built.

Liquid Stream in the Rotary Valve of the Hydraulic Power Steering Gear

Generally, noise will occur during steering with the hydraulic power steering system (hereinafter HPS). The noise producing in the rotary valve takes up a big proportion of the total one. To study the noise in the control valve, 2-D meshes of the flow field between the sleeve and the rotor were set up and a general CFD code-Fluent was used to analyze the flow inside the valve. The areas where the noise may be occurred were shown and some suggestions to silence the noise were given.

Low Cetane Number Renewable Oxy-fuels for Premixed Combustion Concept Application: Experimental Investigation on a Light Duty Diesel Engine

This paper illustrates the results of an experimental study on the impact of a low cetane number (CN) oxygenated fuel on the combustion process and emissions of a light-duty (LD) single-cylinder research engine. In an earlier study, it was concluded that cyclic oxygenates consistently outperformed their straight and branched counterparts at equal oxygen content and with respect to lowering soot emissions. A clear correlation was reported linking soot and CN, with lower CN fuels leading to more favorable soot levels. It was concluded that a lower CN fuel, when realized by adding low reactive cyclic oxygenates to commercial diesel fuel, manifests in longer ignition delays and thus more premixing. Ultimately, a higher degree of premixing, in turn, was thought to suppress soot formation rates.

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) are essential for reducing fuel consumption and emissions. However, when analyzing different segments of the transportation industry, for example, public transportation or different sizes of delivery trucks and how the HEV are used, it is clear that one powertrain may not be optimal in all situations. Choosing a hybrid powertrain architecture and proper component sizes for different applications is an important task to find the optimal trade-off between fuel economy, drivability, and vehicle cost. However, exploring and evaluating all possible architectures and component sizes is a time-consuming task. A search algorithm, using Gaussian Processes, is proposed that simultaneously explores multiple architecture options, to identify the Pareto-optimal solutions.

Modal Based Rotating Disc Model for Disc Brake Squeal

Modelling of disc in brake squeal analysis is complicated because of the rotation of disc and the sliding contact between disc and pads. Many analytical or analytical numerical combined modeling methods have been developed considering the disc brake vibration and squeal as a moving load problem. Yet in the most common used complex eigenvalue analysis method, the moving load nature normally has been ignored. In this paper, a new modelling method for rotating disc from the point of view of modal is presented. First finite element model of stationary disc is built and modal parameters are calculated. Then the dynamic response of rotating disc which is excited and observed at spatial fixed positions is studied. The frequency response function is derived through space and time transformations. The equivalent modal parameter is extracted and expressed as the function of rotation speed and original stationary status modal parameters.

Modeling and Verification of Tire Nonlinearity Effect on Accuracy of Vehicle Yaw Rate Calculation

The desired yaw rate is a vital target parameter for vehicle stability control, which is currently determined as a steady-state yaw rate by the linear single-track vehicle model. Tire nonlinearity deteriorates the effect of vehicle stability control at larger lateral acceleration. This paper proposes a new calculation method of the steady-state yaw rate considering the tire nonlinearity based on the brush tire model. To validate and verify the proposed method, step steering tests of the target vehicle under different lateral accelerations are carried out on a real proving ground. The results show that when the lateral acceleration is relatively small, the difference between the calculation results of the proposed method and the traditional one is not apparent, and both methods can provide a good estimation for the steady-state yaw rate; however, when the lateral acceleration is relatively large, the difference becomes apparent.

Modelling and Performances of Hydraulic Magnetorheological Fluid Damper with Modified Bi-Viscosity Model

A hydraulic chamber is embedded in serial with the accumulator of a normal mono-tube magnetorheological fluid damper (MRFD). The damper stiffness can be adjusted by changing the accumulator volume with the hydraulic chamber. The hydraulic chamber is connected to an electric pump and controlled by the braking-by-wire (BBW) system. A modified bi-viscosity magnetorheological fluid (MRF) model that explicitly includes the parameter of control current is proposed. A dynamic model of this hydraulic MRFD is subsequently set up based on the MRF model. Experiments are conducted to validate the model and simulations are carried out to study the influences of accumulator volume on the external performances. Results show that the hydraulic chamber is able to provide rapid variations of the external force through accumulator volume changes.

Modelling and Simulation of a Magnetorheological Fluid Damper with Multi-Accumulator during Mode Shifting

In a monotube magnetorheological fluid damper (MRFD), there usually exists a compensation chamber with designated initial gas pressure. This enclosed compensation chamber works as an air spring to some degree to provide force to the working piston. In this work, in order to extend the external damping force range and improve the controlling efficiency, a structure of MRFD with three additional accumulators is proposed. These additional accumulators are connected to the atmosphere through an air pump and the compensation chamber with a barometric valve. The external damping force range thus can be rapidly adjusted through mode shifting with this configuration. A mathematical model of this damper with coupled effects between the air and the magnetorheological fluid (MRF) is developed. Comparing the bench tests results with some simulation outcomes, the simulation model of this MRFD is validated.

Multi-Objective Adaptive Cruise Control via Deep Reinforcement Learning

This work presents a multi-objective adaptive cruise control (ACC) system via deep reinforcement learning (DRL). During the control period, it quantitatively considers three indexes: tracking accuracy, riding comfort, and fuel economy. The system balances contradictions between different indexes to achieve the best overall control results. First, a hierarchical control architecture is utilized, where the upper level controller is synthesized under DRL framework to give out the vehicle desired acceleration. The lower level controller executes the command and compensates vehicle dynamics. Then, four state variables that can comprehensively determine the car-following states are selected for better convergence. Multi-objective reward function is quantitatively designed referring to the evaluation indexes, in which safety constraints are considered by adding violation penalty. Thereafter, the training environment which excludes the disturbance of preceding car acceleration is built.

Numerical Analysis on the Potential of Reducing DPF Size Using Low Ash Lubricant Oil

Diesel particulate filter (DPF) is necessary for diesel engines to meet the increasingly stringent emission regulations. Many studies have demonstrated that the lubricant derived ash has a significant effect on DPF pressure drop and engine fuel economy, and this effect becomes more and more severe with the increasing of operating hours of the DPF because the ash accumulated in the DPF cannot be removed by regeneration. It is reported that most of the DPFs operated with more ash than soot in the filter for more than three quarters of the time during its lifetime [1]. In order to mitigate this problem, the original engine manufacturers (OEM) tend to use an oversized DPF for the engine. However, it will increase the costs of the DPF and reduce the compactness of the engine aftertreatment system.

Numerical Study of Pressure Swirl Spray Using an Improved KIVALES with Dense Grid for GDI Engine

Gasoline direct injection engines can greatly improve the fuel economy, but the idea mixture distribution cannot be easily controlled. In this paper, the linearized instability sheet atomization (LISA) and large eddy simulation (LES) implemented into KIVA-3V code were used to study the gasoline hollow cone spray process for gasoline direct injection (GDI) in a constant volume vessel. The three-dimensional results show that the LISA model can effectively simulate the gasoline hollow cone spray and obtain the string structure compared to the experiment data. And the velocity interpolation method can reduce the grid dependency of spray simulation. Using dense grid (about 8 million cells) in LES and RANS all can obtain the good spray tip penetration and width. Unlike diesel spray, for gasoline spray there are not big difference between the results using LES and RANS. In additional the ambient pressure significantly influence the gasoline spray shape.

On the Coupling Stiffness in Closed-Loop Coupling Disc Brake Model through Optimization

The study and prevention of unstable vibration is a challenging task for vehicle industry. Improving predicting accuracy of braking squeal model is of great concern. Closed-loop coupling disc brake model is widely used in complex eigenvalue analysis and further analysis. The coupling stiffness of disc rotor and pads is one of the most important parameters in the model. But in most studies the stiffness is calculated by simple static force-deformation simulation. In this paper, a closed-loop coupling disc brake model is built. Initial values of coupling stiffness are estimated from static calculation. Experiment modal analysis of stationary disc brake system with brake line pressure and brake torques applied is conducted. Then an optimization process is initiated to minimize the differences between modal frequencies predicted by the stationary model and those from test. Thus model parameters more close to reality are found.

The new concept of “human-machine shared control” provides an amazing thinking to enhance driving safety, which has been attracted a great deal of research effort in recent years. However, little attention has been paid to the nonlinearity of the shared control system brought by the tire, which significantly influences the control performance under extreme driving conditions. This paper presents a novel shared steering torque control scheme to model the human-machine steering torque interaction near the vehicle’s handling limit, where both driver and driver assistance system (DAS) are exerting steering torque to maneuver the vehicle. A six-order driver-vehicle dynamic system is presented to elaborate the relationship between steering torque input and vehicle lateral motion response. Particularly, we use a piecewise affine (PWA) method to approximate the tire nonlinearity.

Pushbelt CVT Efficiency Improvement Potential of Servo-electromechanical Actuation and Slip Control

By using the ability to shift to high overdrive ratios, a CVT equipped vehicle can outperform the fuel economy of its counterpart with conventional automatic transmission. A further signi cant reduction of fuel consumption can be obtained by reducing transmission power loss. The main sources of power loss are well known to be losses inside the V-belt variator and losses caused by driving the hydraulic pump. Signi - cant reduction of these losses will increase the attractiveness of the V-belt type CVT. This paper rst analyses the most important loss contributions present in a reference transmission and how they depend on actuation and control properties, like pump driving power, over-clamping and variator slip. Based on this analysis, actuation and control improvements will be proposed. The effciency increase is presented, that can be expected when the hydraulic pump is replaced by a servo-electromechanical actuation system, and when variator slip control is introduced.

Refinements of the Dynamic Inversion Part of Hierarchical 4WIS/4WID Trajectory Tracking Controllers

To tackle the over-actuated and highly nonlinear characteristics that four-wheel-independent-steering and four-wheel-independent -driving (4WIS/4WID) vehicles exhibit when tracking aggressive trajectory, a hierarchical controller with layers of computation-intensive modules is commonly adopted. The high-level linear motion controller commands the desired state derivatives of the vehicle to meet the overall trajectory tracking objectives. Then the system dynamic is inversed by the mid-level control allocation layer and the low-level wheel control layer to map the target state derivatives to steering angle and motor torque commands. However, this type of controller is difficult to implement on the embedded hardware onboard since the nonlinear dynamic inversion is typically solved by nonlinear programming.
